Why are some people terribly mean and why would a brother be mean to his own family?

he is distancing himself from his family and growing up and growing away. unfortunately not in a positive way. it will hurt him more than it hurts you and still he may go into trouble and then need his family to help in get on the right track again. sometimes people confuse growing up with acting badly.
