Affordable electric bes for beginners?

I would like to begin playing b. I have a Fender strat as a guitar, but it is hard for me to play, mainly because I'm a really short (5'2") and small person, and I have extremely small hands. I would like a few suggestions on what kind of b to get. I would need one that's not too heavy, under $500, and would be good for the 'long haul'. Suggestions of brands and specific bes would be great. Thank you!
